MRI

How long does an MRI scan take? 

One exam (body part) takes approximately 25 - 45 minutes.

I am claustrophobic, what can I do?

Our MRI tech will work closely with you during your scan and a family member may go into the scan room with you. We have a window in the room to assist with the enclosed feeling. You may ask your doctor for a mild sedative, but someone will need to come with you to drive you home.

What do I wear for MRI?

For your safety, you will be asked to change into a gown and/or pajama pants for your MRI scan. Please leave valuables at home, lockers are provided for your convenience.  MRI patients should not have any hairpins. If you have a pacemaker, notify your doctor to order another test, you may not go in the MRI scanner. Females may be asked to remove their bra.

What kind of prep do I need to do before my scan?

Please refer to the question above. The technologist will ask questions and discuss the test with you prior to going into the scan room. Continue prescribed medications according to your physician.

CT Scan

How long does a CT scan take?

One exam takes approximately 15 – 20 minutes.

What kind of prep do I need to do before my scan?

CT Prep is dependent upon the body part being evaluated. You may be asked to drink barium before the scan, skip a meal or have lab drawn. Continue prescribed medications according to your physician. Discuss this with your doctor or call us at (816) 671-4846. The technologist will ask questions and discuss the test with you prior to the exam.

What do I wear to my scan?

Wear comfortable clothing, nothing metallic in the body area being scanned.

Ultrasound

How long will my ultrasound test take?

30 – 45 min.

How is my ultrasound test done?

The technologist will place a gel substance on the appropriate area of the body to be scanned and then place a transducer "wand" on the skin to obtain the images.

What do I wear for the ultrasound?

Wear comfortable non-restrictive clothing. The technologist may have you change into a gown for the test.

What kind of prep do I need to do before my scan?

Prep is dependent upon the body part being evaluated. You may be asked to hold a meal or drink lots of fluid. Discuss with your doctor or call us at (816) 671-4846.

X-ray

How long will my test take?

5-20 minutes dependent upon the body part.

What do I wear for the X-ray?

Wear comfortable clothing, nothing metallic in the body area being scanned. The technologist will ask questions and discuss the test with you prior to the exam.

Image CD Requests

If a physician requests a CD of a patient's images, one can be provided free of charge. If a physician requests images that will be sent to KU or Children's Mercy, they can be sent free of charge through the Cloud.

If a patient requests a CD without a physician's request, a $25 fee is charged to cover costs.

If a lawyer requests a CD, a $25 fee is charged to cover costs.
