Soil-transmitted helminthiasis

Overview

These infections are spread through oral or skin contact with contaminated human feces. They are most common in warm, moist climates with poor sanitation.

Symptoms

Symptoms can be serious. Belly pain, diarrhea and rectal prolapse may occur. Malnutrition can develop. Children with these infections may have mental and physical growth impairments.

Treatments

Soil transmitted helminthiases are treated with chemotherapy drugs.
