Spotted fever


Overview

Spotted fever is a potentially fatal disease that's usually caused by the bite of a tick infected with rickettsia group bacteria. Rocky Mountain is one type of spotted fever.

Symptoms

Symptoms include fever, headache and muscle aches. A rash may be present, frequently with blackened or crusted skin at the site of a tick bite.

Treatments

Spotted fever responds well to prompt treatment with antibiotics.
