Cysticercosis

Overview

Cysticercosis is spread by contact with tapeworm-infected human feces. Contaminated food or water and dirty hands are all sources.

Symptoms

Cysticercosis may cause lumps under the skin or vision changes. When it spreads to the brain or spinal cord, headaches and seizures may occur.

Treatments

The tapeworm may exit the body on its own. Drugs are needed in some cases. Access to improved sanitation is key to prevention.
