When to make a doctor’s appointment

Make an appointment to see a doctor if:

  • Happens repeatedly
  • Lasts for a long time
  • Severe
  • A sense that the room is spinning
  • Unable to perform daily activities

Self-care

Drink plenty of fluids, but avoid those with caffeine, and don't smoke. Avoid standing quickly from a sitting or lying down position.

When to seek immediate medical care

See a doctor immediately if:

  • Chest pain, an irregular heartbeat, or shortness of breath
  • Severe headache, difficulty walking, trouble speaking, vision changes, facial weakness, or numbness
  • Begins after a head injury
  • High fever, stiff neck, or persistent vomiting
