Long QT syndrome is caused by changes in the heart's electrical system. These changes can happen due to changed DNA that's passed from parent to child. Or they can happen due to some medicines or health conditions.

Symptoms

Long QT syndrome can cause sudden fainting and seizures. Young people with long QT syndrome have a higher risk of sudden cardiac death.

Treatments

Long QT syndrome treatment may include lifestyle changes, medicines, a medical device, or surgery. The goals of treatment are to prevent dangerous heartbeats and sudden death.
