Metabolic alkalosis

Overview

Metabolic alkalosis is a condition in which there's too much of the chemical bicarbonate in the body. Common causes include vomiting and use of diuretics.

Symptoms

Symptoms include headache, fatigue, shakiness, and sometimes confusion and seizures.

Treatments

Treatment may include IV fluids and filtering blood through a machine (hemodialysis).
