Taeniasis

Overview

Taeniasis is caused by eating undercooked beef or pork that contains tapeworm eggs.

Symptoms

Symptoms may include belly pain, lost appetite, weight loss and upset stomach. Tapeworm segments may be visible as they pass through the anus and in the feces.

Treatments

Medications are used to treat taeniasis. Cooking meat to safe temperatures prevents the illness. Access to improved sanitation also is key.
