Birthmark


When to make a doctor’s appointment

See a doctor if:

  • Bleeding
  • Painful or itchy
  • Warm and red
  • Becomes darker, bigger, or raised, or borders become irregular

Description

An area of skin that differs from the surrounding skin. It's sometimes present when a baby is born or develops soon after.

Self-care

Birthmarks usually don't need treatment. Some fade over time.

  • Painful.
  • Large.
  • Rapidly changing.
  • Accompanied by other similar spots.
